$5 Dinner: Bowties and Broccoli (Meatless)

As I mentioned in my Couponing 101 tutorial, we eat a few meatless meals each week, mainly because it’s a healthy practice, but also because it helps us to keep our meat costs in check.  This is one of our favorite meatless meals:

Serves: 4


1 box bowtie pasta

one large head broccoli

1-2 cloves fresh minced garlic

1/8 c. olive oil

2 T. butter

Parmesan cheese


Cook pasta according to package instructions.

Cut broccoli into bite-sized pieces. Place broccoli, olive oil, and butter in frying pan and cook, stirring frequently. When broccoli is almost to desired softness or crunchiness, add garlic and cook just until fragrant.

Top pasta with broccoli mixture, sprinkle with parmesan cheese and serve.
