Aldi-licious: Brats and Mash

Brats and Mash


Deep in the middle of winter, comfort food is what we all want. This easy recipe cooks up quickly into a lovely dinner that is perfect for a cozy evening at home, and is easily doubled or tripled (just make sure your pan is big enough before you begin!). Serve this dish with a salad, or steamed green beans.


1 package of Stadium Brats (6 in a package)

2 small or medium onions, sliced or cut into wedges

canola oil

1/2 cup red or white wine or apple juice

1 Tbsp. Spicy Brown Mustard or Deli Mustard

Peel your potatoes and put them in a pan to boil for mashed potatoes. While they are cooking, heat a tablespoon or two of oil in a skillet and begin to saute your onions. Throw in the brats to brown while your onions are cooking. You may need to add a bit more oil to the pan, or adjust your heat, to keep the onions cooking but not burning. Cook for about 10-15 minutes until the onions are translucent and browning nicely and your brats seem to be heated through.


Add the wine or apple juice and simmer for 1-2 minutes then stir in the mustard, which will thicken the sauce a bit. Keep warm until your potatoes are cooked and mashed and you are ready to serve up. Serves 3-4.
