Our Delicious Aldi Holiday Party!

I had an opportunity to host a holiday party for family and friends sponsored by Aldi, featuring food purchased exclusively from Aldi! The ten people attending enjoyed some delectable appetizers, a main course, and dessert.

Here’s a detailed description of everything featured in our party…

Appetizers

from top to bottom and left to right:

  • Appetitos Mozzarella Cheese Sticks with Marinara Sauce (freezer section)
  • Appetizer tray (we created) with the following:

Green pears
Braeburn Apples
Clementines

Main Course

Chinese Chicken Salad and L’oven Fresh Artisan French Baguette

Ingredients for salad:

  • four Kirkwood frozen, boneless chicken breasts
  • one head of cabbage, chopped finely
  • two cans of mandarin oranges
  • 3-4 green onions, chopped
  • one package ramen soup noodles, crunched finely
  • one bag of Southern Grove Slivered Almonds, toasted in butter
  • one container water chestnuts

Dressing:

  • three parts canola oil (3/4 c.) to one part apple cider vinegar (1/4 c.)
  • 3/4 – 1 c. sugar
  • salt and pepper to taste

  • Nature’s Nectar Sparkling Cider
  • Nature’s Nectar Non-Alcoholic Red Grape Juice Cocktail
  • Nature’s Nectar Non-Alcoholic White Grape Juice Cocktail

Berry Burst Cake Recipe

The other night I made this delicious cake with a recipe that Aldi sent me as part of their Berry Burst Juice promotion. It’s easy and makes a great addition to a summer picnic!

Berry Burst Cake

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 20-oz Happy Harvest Crushed Pineapple
  • 18.25-oz (1 box) Baker’s Corner Yellow Cake Mix
  • 3 Eggs
  • 1 c. Nature’s Nectar Berry Burst Juice
  • 1/3 c. Vegetable Oil
  • Baking Spray
  • 1 c. All Purpose Flour
  • 1/4 c. Nature’s Nectar Berry Burst
  • 1/2 c. Powdered Sugar
  • 1 T. All Purpose Flour

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. Drain pineapple over a medium sized bowl and set aside. Save juice and pineapple.

3. In a large mixing bowl blend cake mix, eggs, berry burst, and vegetable oil

4. Stir in drained crushed pineapple.

5. Spray a bundt pan with cooking spray and add cake mixture. Bake for 30 minutes.

6. Mix together reserved pineapple juice and 1 c. powdered sugar. Pour into a small saucepan and heat until boiling.

7. Whisk in flour and keep stirring until desired consistency is reached, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

8. In a small saucepan, whisk together 1/4 c. berry burst and 1/2 c. powdered sugar. Heat until boiling.

9. Whisk in flour and keep stirring until desired consistency is reached, about 2 minutes. remove from heat and set aside.

10. Remove cake from oven and let cool. Run a knife along the sides of the pan to loosen cake. Invert on a place and flip over. Drizzle with pineapple glaze and then berry burst glaze. We also enjoyed cream and berries with our cake.

Ideas for {Frugal} Summer Fun: Make Your Own Freezer Pops

We’ve been enjoying the new Berry Burst juice from Aldi (read my original post about it here). The other day we picked up some inexpensive freezer pop molds and made popsicles. The boys LOVED them, and they were the perfect treat for a hot day.

Berry Burst Super Stuffed Waffles

Tonight we had a delicious breakfast dinner with a recipe that Aldi sent me as part of their Berry Burst Juice promotion. These stuffed waffles were a HUGE hit, so I thought I would share the recipe with you.

Berry Burst Super Stuffed Waffles

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 8oz Friendly Farms Cream Cheese
  • 1/2 c. Nature’s Nectar Berry Burst juice
  • 2 T. Baker’s Corner Granulated Sugar
  • 8 Breakfast Best Homestyle Waffles (we made our own waffles in the picture above)
  • 1/4 c. Water
  • 1/2 c. Berry Burst juice
  • 2 c. Baker’s Corner Granulated Sugar
  • 1 c. Strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • Friendly Farms Whipped Cream, aerosol

Directions:

1. In a mixer whip cream cheese on high, add the juice and sugar and continue to whip until light and fluffy. Set aside.

2. Toast waffles according to package directions.

3. For syrup, in a small sauce pan combine water, 1/2 c. juice, and sugar. Brind to a boil. Boil for 2 minutes then remove from heat.

4. Sandwich 1/4 of the cream cheese mixture and 1/4 c. strawberries between two waffles and place on a plate.

5. Top each with desired amount of syrup and whipped cream.
